Sparkly Kool-aid Playdough

We took the Play Dough Pledge hosted byNurtureStore, The Imagination Tree and Sun Hats and Wellie Boots this week.

I couldn't wait to try out some new to us play dough recipes. :) We started with our Sandy Playdough, which was great and the girls loved it.

Today we tried out some Kool-aid play dough :) I've seen recipes around for this type of play dough for a long time, but just never got around to trying it. The Play dough pledge was a great reason to finally try it out.

I had this recipe from Learning2coupon  pinned on my play dough board on Pinterest, so I decided to use it. I ended up cutting the recipe in half, as I knew I wanted to make a few different colours.

Ingredients:
2 cups All-purpose Flour
2 teaspoons Cream of Tartar
2 tablespoons Vegetable Oil
1/2 cup Salt
2 packets Kool-Aid
2 cups Hot Water

Place all dry ingredients in mixing bowl. Mix well. Add oil and hot water. Stir, over med-low heat until it forms the feel and consistency of play dough. Remove from heat. Knead with spoon until it cools to touch, then knead with hands.

We also decided to add some glitter to make our play dough sparkly :) For the first batch, I added the glitter after cooking it. For the other batches, I put the glitter in with the other dry ingredients. I found this way much easier and the glitter mixed in a lot more evenly.

I had some Blue Raspberry, Lemon-Lime and Cherry

After making the play dough, I set out some muffins tins, cupcake liners, candles, a basket of cookie cutters, tinfoil shaped cupcake tins and some baking tools for Sammie to use with the play dough. I wasn't sure if she would use them or not as usually she just plays with her regular play dough tools. She did that when we played with the sandy play dough, but today she loved the new tools.

She had a blast making cupcakes and ice creams balls :)

Sammie spent most of the afternoon, off and on, playing with this play dough. :) I wasn't allowed to put it away, just in case she wanted to go back to it lol

When Maddie got home from school, Sammie immediately had to go make her some ice cream :)

To make the ice cream balls, she would pick up a piece of the play dough, form it into a ball, put it in the ice cream scoop and then take it back out to put it in the muffin tray lol

This was a great play dough recipe. :) The kool-aid added a slight scent to the play dough, not overpowering, and the colours were very pretty. I can see us trying this type again once this batch dries out.

Sammie had a great time playing with it. I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly she started using the new tools and things that I had set out. She is in a phase right now that once she plays or does something one way, that is the only way she will do it. So it was nice to see her trying out the new ideas :)

  1. That is the recipe we use. Using koolaid takes care of the color and the scentall at once!
