Simple Canada Day Flag

This week we have been sharing some fun Canada Day crafts. We have made Canada Day Pinwheels, a Canada Day Wind Tube and Canada Day Rice Crispy Squares.

Today we will share a fairly simple Canada Flag. I have seen variations of handprint Canada flags around the internet. At Kitchen Counter Chronicles, they made a paint version of the flag and at My Buddies and I, they made one using construction paper and paint. I found the version that we made at

Meet the Dubiens

To make this craft you will need:

-a piece of sturdy paper (bristol or poster board)

-some red paint

- a hand lol

I took our paper and divided it roughly by thirds

The girls painted the two end strips completely red. Sammie was having a bit of trouble keeping her paint in the lines, but she did a very good job :)

Then I painted the palm of Sammie's hand with the red paint. Maddie painted her own hand :)

I had her press her hand on the paper, straight up and down. Then turned her hand to the left and pressed it down pointing to the side. We pressed her hand down once more, pointing to the opposite side. I think we added more paint to her hand after pressing it down.
Then they added a red line at the bottom of the handprints for a stem.

This is what it ends up looking like. The three handprints sort of look like a maple leaf :) Sammie decided that her flag needed an extra hand print lol

Maddie's hand was too big for the paper, so she had to play around a bit with her hand placement.

The girls found this to be a fairly easy craft, especially for Maddie. Sammie loved painting the paper, but wasn't too sure at first about me painting her hand lol

I think if I do these flags again next year, I will have the kids do their handprints first and then do the red stripes after, to make sure their handprints fit :)
