Canada Day Rice Crispy Squares

We have been sharing some Canada Day themed crafts all week. We have shared our Canada Day Pinwheels and a Red & White Wind Tube.

Today we will share some yummy Canada themed Rice Crispy Squares :) We used the basic rice crispy square recipe from the Rice Krispies cereal box.

My original plan for these rice crispy squares was to make them maple leaf shaped by placing them mixture into the cookie cutter, but it was way too sticky and didn't work out right :( So I decided to just make a pan of them and decorate them like a Canada flag, but then I remembered that not all of us like frosting. So I decided to make frosting maple leaves on top of the rice crispy squares instead and that turned out great :)
For this recipe you will need:

-1/4 cup butter
-approximately 40 large marshmallows
-1 tsp vanilla
-6 cups rice crispies
-tube of red frosting or your own frosting coloured red
-a maple leaf shaped cookie cutter

Melt your butter over low heat in a large pot

Count out your marshmallows and add them to the melted butter.

Melt marshmallows over low heat, stirring constantly.

Once marshmallows are melted, remove from heat and add in vanilla. Pour in the rice crispies and mix well.

Put your mixture into a well greased pan and flatten out.

To make our rice crispy squares Canada themed, we added some red frosting maple leaves. :) To make the leaves, I placed the cookie cutter on top of the rice crispy squares and filled it in with frosting, then spread it around evenly inside the cutter. Remove the cutter and repeat for as many leaves as you would like :)

These were so yummy :) The kids jsut couldn't wait to eat them. I think there is less than half the pan left lol

We will be sharing a couple more Canada Day crafts this week, with a special Canada Day post on July 1. Please check back for more ideas :)

  2. Yum! And I thought Canada was famous for maple candy :) which I love! Cute addition with the maple leaves. Have you ever made maple-flavored rice krispie treats? Just wondering - I think my kids would like that.
