Today was an early dismissal day for the big kids, so while thinking up a craft, I was trying to think of one that both girls could do.
I remembered picking these tissue paper squares pack at the dollar store earlier this week and thought we would try making something with them.
The packs have 3000 pieces of tissue paper already cut up into squares (Yay for me not having to cut them all up). I had bought one of pastel colours and one of brighter colours.
I opened up both packs and dumped all the squares into a little tote. Also set out some glue, paper and a pencil for wrapping the tissue paper around.
To make this craft, you take one of the squares of tissue paper, pull the sides of the tissue up along the pencil and give them a twist, dip it in the glue and stick it to your paper, then pull the pencil away. The tissue paper looks almost like a little flower :)
Sammie was having a little trouble figuring out how to do this craft. She wasn't sure how to wrap the tissue paper around the pencil, without ripping a hole in the paper or how to hold the paper around the pencil. The dipping part she had no trouble with at all lol
I showed her a couple of times and helped her with a couple of them.
She was so proud of herself once she figured it out :)
Sammie's first picture.
She then decided that this craft was too hard for her, so she wanted to colour instead. :)
Maddie was still working away on hers.
Sammie wanted to try another picture. So I drew her a picture that she could stick the tissue to.
She stuck a few pieces on and then she wanted to paint the glue on the picture and then stick the tissue paper on
Maddie's finished masterpiece :)
Sammie's finished masterpiece :)
This was a fun craft and I remember making these in grade school, usually as a Christmas wreath.
I think this was a much easier craft for Maddie than Sammie, but then again Sammie would much rather be painting than gluing :)
I was thinking after I posted this, this morning, that it might have been easier for Sammie to use her finger to hold the tissue paper instead of the pencil. :)
I can definitely see Maddie making another craft like this
I found similar crafts to this on the following sites:
If you have done this type of craft, I would love to hear from you :) Please feel free to leave a comment here or join us at our Facebook page

DeleteI love it. This would be a great thing to do with tissue paper left from gifts.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting Jenni :)It would be a great use for that tissue paper :) I don't think you would even have to have it in squares, just smaller pieces
DeleteI love this - what a lovely texture.
ReplyDeleteThank you :) I just love running my hands over the tops of them and feeling it :)
DeleteWe love glue and tissue paper! Such a fun activity! Have you tried tissue paper and contact paper? So fun!
ReplyDeleteWe haven't tried using tissue paper with contact paper yet, but that would be another great use for these squares :)

We love our tissue paper crafts around here. Tissue paper is one of my favourite crafting supplies, and I hoard it! I was at a baby shower last weekend, and I actually asked to bring all the tissue paper home withe me as the Mama to be was unwrapping the gifts. i got a garbage bag full of it. Woohoo!
ReplyDeleteWhen we started crafting with it here in my daycare, it was clear that the pencil thing was going to be too difficult for the 2s and 3s to handle, so we don't bother with the pencil now. I just cut the tissue paper into squares, and the kids crumpled it up and stick it. It's so much easier for little hands to do, and the results are beautiful. I encourage them to give it a quick crumple so it stays quite fluffy, and that way they don't need to work as long or hard to fill in their projects. You could always give that a try. Sammie might enjoy that. :)
That is a great idea to have her just crumple up the squares instead of trying to use a pencil or something else :)I'll have to give it a try
DeleteWhat a great score of tissue paper from a shower :)
