Spray Paint Pictures

We spent the morning at the park with one of Sammie's friends from daycare :) When we came home, Sammie didn't want to play inside, I remembered seeing this great activity for Watercolour Spray Paint from Creative Connections for Kids and thought we could try it, as it looked like so much fun :)

I tacked up some paper on a board we had laying around and brought over her spray bottles filled with water and liquid water colours.

She started spraying away and we quickly realized that there was too much water compared to the water colours. So I took them inside and added some more water colours to the bottles.

Once there was more paint in the bottles, the colours showed up much better on the paper

She tried using some stencils that I made, but the paint just kept running down behind them and it didn't really work.

She found a piece of wood and decided to try to spray paint it :)

Don't mind the blue around her mouth. Someone got into her sister's makeup, while she was supposed to be eating her lunch lol

Trying to paint a sun.

For her second picture, I set the board down flat, thinking that the paint might not run quite as much.
She used one of the shapes again and it worked better with it laying down.

Sammie got bored with this after a while, so I decided to play for a bit and I will admit that I did this picture :) I was having a blast spraying away and creating cool designs. It just looks so cool :)

I made the mistake of hanging the pictures up to dry. All the paint ran together and most of the splatter/spray designs were gone :( They still look pretty neat, just not quite as cool as when they were wet

You can still sort of see the spray design here

Sammie's first picture dried with an interested design. You can see where the paint dried as it was still running :)

I'm not sure what to do with these pictures. I think they would make some great hand made wrapping paper or something like that though. :)

This was a fun craft, I think I had more fun with it than Sammie, which I was really surprised at as painting is her favourite thing to do. I think part of it was that she was trying to paint actually pictures instead of just random spraying.

If we do this craft again, I will definitely not hang the pictures up to dry, just leave them flat somewhere.

Have you done this craft before or a similar craft? If so, we would love for you to comment here or on our Facebook page

  1. I actually did do this about a month ago with the Pre-K class I teach. I had the paper hung up on our large outdoor easel and set out the spray bottles with water & liquid water color. They loved this way of "painting" very much and soon decided to paint our boulders as well. :)
