Our new balance beam

I was visiting some blogs earlier this week and saw this post on In Lieu of Preschool  for a homemade balance beam that they had made. I knew right away that Sammie would absolutely love playing on one. So I called up a friend of ours (the same one that made our water/sand table) and asked if he could make one of these for us :)

He came out and within 10 minutes, he had it made. It's a 4X4 with 4 short 2X4 pieces screwed to the bottom for support and to keep it from turning over. He said the 4X4 cost about $12 and the 2X4 were scraps that he had in his truck.

She wanted to know if she could paint it, when I told her that she could, she ran and got her purple spray bottle :)

When she got tired of spraying, she started trying to walk across. The first time she fell off a couple of times, but very soon, she could get all the way across without falling off :)

She had her shoes on the wrong feet and when she kept falling off, our friend told her it was because of her shoes being on backwards. lol She immediately went up onto the deck to fix them :) When she came back and tried again, she made it all the way across :)

A little bit later, she fell off again and she said "did my shoes get on backwards again?" lol  I had to explain to her that it wasn't really because of her shoes.

Trying to crawl across :)

Walking sideways ;)

When Maddie got home, she had to go out and try it right away.

Sammie convinced Maddie to help her paint the balance beam some more

What a great $12 investment :) Both girls loved it and I can see it getting a lot of use this summer.
