Baking Roly Polies/Snail Shells

I recently purchased this book Arts & Crafts Busy Book by Trish Kuffner and I think it's going to be my new best friend for craft ideas, along with Pinterest of course lol

I was flipping through it and found this recipe in it. I remembered helping my mom make these when I was little and how good they were. Anytime she made pies, we got to make these with the left over pie dough.
I don't really bake pies, so there was no left over dough. I bought some of the Pilsbury pie crusts and we used those instead.

 You will need
          - pie crust, either pie dough scraps, ready made pie crust dough, bread or biscuit dough
          -margarine or butter, softened
          -brown sugar
-cinnamon (when we made these as kids, I don't remember using cinnamon)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees

Roll out your dough into a rectangle. If you are using ready to make pie crust, save the scraps to make a second batch

Spread your margarine or butter all over the dough. Try to cover to whole dough

Spread brown sugar over the butter covered dough.

Then sprinkle with cinnamon

Starting at the long end, roll up as tightly as you can. Then cut into 1/2" slices and lay the slices flat on your baking sheet. Make sure to grease your baking sheet very well, to keep the roly polies from sticking to the sheet.

All ready to go into the oven :)
Bake for about 10-15 minutes.

Our first batch was really stuck to the cookie sheet (I didn't grease it enough). With the second batch, I moved them around on the sheet before they cooled all the way.

All ready to eat :) Yummy!

The girls decided to make a second batch, using the scraps :)

Roly Poly/Snail Shells recipe

Pasty dough scraps or ready made pie, bread or biscuit dough, thawed
Margarine or butter, softened
Brown Sugar
Cinnamon (optional)

1 Preheat oven to 350 degrees
2 Roll the dough into rectangle about 1/8" thick . (Roll bread or biscuit dough slightly thicker) The short sides should be at least 6" long
3 Spread a thin layer of margarine over the dough
4 Sprinkle the dough with brown sugar and cinnamon
5 Starting at the long side of the rectangle, roll up the dough tightly
6 Cut into 1/2" slices.
7 Lay the slices flat on a well greased baking sheet, about 1" apart, and bake for about 10-15 mins
8 Transfer the slices to a wire rack to cool before eating

Everyone here loved them and both batches were gone very quickly. Sammie, my pickiest eater, even ate a bunch of them :)
