Water Balloon Painting

Watching the girls playing the other day with their water balloons gave me a great idea for another activity using the water balloons and their Pumponators.

I took the pumponator, water colours and water and made a whole bunch of water balloons with coloured water inside :) As a side note, it is amazing how how coloured water will spray if a water balloon slips out of your hand as you are trying to tie it lol The opposite side of the bathroom had coloured water running down the walls.

I thought they would have a blast painting by breaking the water balloons.

We set out some long sheets of paper on the grass and the girls started trying to break the balloons and paint. But the balloons wouldn't pop on the grass :( It was also really windy and the paper kept trying to blow away.

So we moved the paper and balloons onto the lane way. Sammie still had trouble getting the balloons to pop. I don't think she could throw them quite hard enough.

Maddie had no trouble getting them to pop :)

Sammie finally got one to pop :)

Sammie gave up on trying to paint with the balloons and got out her spray bottles and started painting that way :)

The papers were getting really wet and starting to rip and the wind still kept trying to blow them away. So we put the papers away and starting colouring the rocks in the lane way :)

Maddie and I had a great time throwing the balloons at the lane way, while Sammie spray painted them with her bottles :)

Now we have a very colourful lane way :)

This was so much fun, but I think Maddie and I had more fun with it than Sammie did. lol I wonder if I had filled the balloons up with more water so that they were fuller, if they would have popped on the paper easier

I can definitely see us do this again, only maybe on a less windy day :)

We will be linking up this great activity on the Summer Blog Carnival :) Be sure to check out some of the great summer activities on there :)

  1. So cool! Aren't those pumponators great? Our kids have them too. Makes doing water balloons so much easier! Now if they could only learn to tie them :)

  11. I love the idea of using colored water. We just did this over the weekend but actually filled the balloons with paint and it was a bit harder and a lot more trouble than I thought it would be, came out cute but still wish I thought of just doing colored water.

  13. What a great idea. When the paper dried it would makebeautiful wrapping paper for gifts. Try red and green for Christmas gift wrap.
