Happy Canada Day

Happy Canada Day ;)

Today is July 1, which is Canada's birthday. We have been clebrating all week by making lots of red, white and Canadian crafts and baking some Canadian themed treats :) We will continue celebrating today with a barbeque meal and maybe watch some fireworks later tonight.

I thought I would share with you today some interesting Canadian facts (but hopefully I won't bore you with too many) and some great Canada Day themed crafts, clothing and recipes that I have found.

- Canada Day was formerly known as Dominion Day
-July 1 is the anniversary of the passing of the Constitution Act of 1867, which granted Canada some independance from England and joined together Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Ontario and Quebec into one country. It was made an official holiday in 1982, when Canada was given total independance from England
-Canada has 10 provinces (Ontario, Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Quebec, Manitoba) and 3 territories (Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut)
-Canada is named from the Huron and Iroquios word "kanata" which means village

Before we get to the craft and activity links, I just had to share this video with you :) It is my favourite Canadian commercial. I just love it :)

And yes, I have had to answer some of these questions for various people over the years.
No, I don't have a pet beaver, actually I've never even seen a real , live beaver.
I don't live in an igloo or have snow all year round. I have worn shorts with a hoodie and used the heat and air conditioning in the same day. My kids do usually wear a snowsuit or at least a winter jacket under their Halloween costumes.
I do say "eh", usually without even realizing that I said it.
I don't like playing hockey or even watching it.
I love ketchup chips, smarties, Coffee Crisp chocolate bars and poutine.
My Pepsi is a pop, not a soda.

Now for some of the great Canada Day themed crafts and recipes that I've found and would love to share with you :)
